Lycra® is a "spandex" fiber that stretches up to 5 times its length with full recovery. It's like wearing a second skin. Lycra® blended with other fibers in knits enhances the performance and fit, yet it maintains its shape with maximum comfort, fit, and range of movement. That is why our favorite activewear garments are so easy to live in...and run in, skate in, cycle in, swim in...
With Lycra® you have so many choices.
Guide to Our Lycra® Collection:
NOTE: All "per metre" prices listed below are for pieces 1 metre long (or 39 inches) by 1.53 metres (or 60 inches) wide, unless otherwise specified. All prices are in those tremendously small Canadian dollars (check the current exchange rate)!
Cutting hint: Lay out the pattern pieces with the greatest degree of stretch going around the body.
Afraid To Sew With Lycra?
Dont be! Its easy!
1. Start with good fabric dont waste your precious time with poor quality stretch fabrics. Its not a savings if you cant or wont wear it!
2. Use a new Teflon-coated stretch needle and polyester thread. Change the needle often.
3. Stretch the fabric as you sew. Practice a bit to get the sweet spot. You want the fabric to completely relax after youve finished sewing the seam.
4. If your machine doesnt have a stretch stitch, use a small zig-zag. Stretch the seam as you sew. Then, pull on it to see if there is enough thread in the seam so it wont break. If need be, re-stitch the seam.
