#305 - Gaitors

A simple pattern for a functional gaitor. One size, it has webbing reinforcement and side velcro closure reinforced with snaps.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS

Upper Gaitor - Waterproof or water-repellant fabrics such as Goretex, Ultrex or CoatedNylons (If using a laminated or coated fabric, a lining should be used to protect the coating. Any breathable nylon will be good.)

Lower Gaitor - Durable and water-repellant such as Cordura or Packcloth or coated nylons. This fabric should be more abrasion resistant than the Upper fabric.

FABRIC AND NOTIONS REQUIRED

All fabrics are 150cm (60") wide. Amounts in Metres (Imperial). Extra fabrics required if you alter the size. Cut with the nap.

FABRICS Upper Gaitor 0.5m (5/8y) of Waterproof or Water-repellant fabric

Lower Gaitor 0.3m (3/8y) of Abrasion fabric

NOTIONS 20mm(3/4") Webbing 3.1m (3 1/2y)

25mm (1") Velcro 0.8m (1y)

20mm (3/4") Elastic 23cm (9")

20mm (3/4") Ladderlock 2

20mm (3/4") Camlock 2

Gaitor Hooks 1 pair

Rivets (to attach Gaitor Hook) 4 (and 1 for practice!)

Outerwear snaps 10 Complete snaps (plus an Applicator if required)

Cut webbing, elastic and velcro into the following pieces:

2 Webbing 43cm (17") for the Top Strap

2 Webbing 38cm (15") for the Boot Strap

2 Webbing 56cm (22") for the Bottom edge stabilizer

2 Webbing 10cm (4") for the Camlock attachment

2 Webbing 5cm (2") for the Ladderlock attachment

2 Elastic 11.5cm (4 1/2") for Top Strap

2 Velcro 40cm (15 1/4") for Opening edge

FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS

One Size Fits all Standard hiking boots! (Mens size 9+ or bigger style boots may need some extra yardage and slight pattern alteration).
