#501 - Highwood Hats
A necessity for winters everywhere. A multi-use hat, headband and neck scarf to keep out the cold!
SUGGESTED MATERIALS
Polartec 200 or Polartec 300 for hat body, headband and neckband
Supplex Nylon, Ripstop Nylon, Supermicroft or Commander for woven nylons for headband and neckband
FABRIC REQUIRED
All fabrics are 150cm (60") wide.
0.2m (1/4y) of fleece for band
Fleece toque
Single colour hat
0.25m (1/3y) of fleece
Fleece toque
Two colour hat (band and top)
0.25m (1/3y) of fleece for top and
Neck scarf
0.3m (1/3y) of fleece + 0.3m (1/3y) of woven nylon + 51mm (2") of 25mm (1") velcro
Headband
0.1m (1/8y) of fleece and 0.1m (1/8y) of woven nylon
UNISEX SIZING
The Highwood hat fits anyone with a head measure between 30 and 70cm (12" to 27").
It is designed to be sewn to fit your head measure! The headband can be sewn from size Small to Large. The neck scarf is one-size fits all.
FLEECE NOTES
Good quality fleece does not need pre-shrinking. If you got yours from the bargain bin, pre-shrink it to be on the safe side. Wash in warm water and hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat.
When gently pulled on the selvedge, the fleece will curl to the right side (or Best side) on Polartec fleece and will not shrink or pill (other versions of fleece do not necessarily follow this rule).
Use 100% polyester thread. Don't get too caught up in matching the thread colours - it gets lost in the pile when you sew.
NOTE: the seam allowance in this pattern is 13mm (1/2").
